Shakespeare Play

IMG_2105This year’s Shakespeare Play was The Comedy of Errors. Our high school thespians, directed by Mr. Daniel Selmeczy, performed it brilliantly on Friday Feb. 14 and Saturday Feb. 15 at St. Therese Church in Alhambra.

The Comedy of Errors tells about two sets of identical twins who were accidentally separated at birth. Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant Dromio arrive in Ephesus, the home of their twin brothers, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, also named Dromio. When the twins from Syracuse meet the friends and families of their twin brothers, all hell breaks loose in a wild ride of mistaken identities. One of the creative highlights of the play was a rap version of “Double, Double, Toil and Trouble.”

The “Golden Globie” awards were conferred upon the following students: Sebastian Mireles and Danny IMG_1537Griffin (Antipholus and Dromio) for best leading actors, Anne Trear (hostess of Antipholus) for best supporting actress, Rose Lemmon (Thisbe) for best actress in a comedic role, James Trear (the Duke of Ephesus) for best supporting actor, and Eamonn Mireles (Caesar) for best actor in a comedic role.

Special thanks go to our production staff, especially those who provided meals: Angela Battles, Carol Golbranson, Julia Boles, Sheila Mireles, Sarah Scott, and Annie Hagan. Thanks also to the Zepeda family for hosting our cast party, Bill Sterritt for donating and installing the stage lighting, Carmen McCarty for being parent liaison and doing makeup all week, and Nicole Mejia and JohnPaul Talbot for their tireless work on the backdrop and prop management.
