Admissions

Admission Criteria

1. Because of the challenging nature of the classical college-preparatory curriculum, the student must be of average to above average ability (average means above the 25th percentile in reading and mathematics, according to national norms).
2. In the case of parents of young students and in the case of both the parents of older students and those students themselves, there must be evidence of a serious commitment to scholarship and to growth in human and supernatural virtues.
3. St. Monica Academy welcomes families of all faiths. All students and parents must recognize, however, that the Catholic faith is central to the mission of St. Monica Academy and students must be willing to participate in the full range of activities at the school, including attending weekly mass and participating in prayers, for example.
4. The applicant's parents must understand and be committed to investing the time, effort and money necessary both for their child's education and for the support of the school.
5. Students with learning difficulties which require special interventions to achieve at least average work may be admitted, provided those special services are obtained outside the school at the parents own expense.
6. Qualified siblings of students already attending St. Monica Academy have precedence over new applicants.

Process

1. Initial getting to know each other. Through a variety of means, parents and their child get to know the school and school personnel get to know the student and family. These means include visiting the school website and reading printed promotional materials, attendance at an open house or lecture, and a meeting with the head of school and tour of the campus.
2. Submission of an application. Parents and their child complete the formal application and submit the required accompanying materials.

3. Further gathering of information about the applicant. This stage may include the following: the school reads the application and academic records, younger students attend an organized "play date," the student visits a half or full-day when school is in session, academic testing is administered if records of past academic achievement or teacher observations are insufficient, and a parent or student interview.
4. Decision. The Admission Committee reviews the applicant according to the admission criteria and makes a recommendation to admit without reservation, admit with reservation, or decline. The final decision on admission rests with the Head of School.
5. Communication. The school informs the parents of the school's decision to either admit or decline. If admitted, the school either offers an enrollment contract or places the student on the waiting list.
6. Enrollment. The school sends the family an enrollment contract. The parents sign the contract and return it to the school with a non-refundable enrollment deposit equal to 10% of the next year's tuition. The headmaster then signs the contract and sends the parents a copy of the executed contract.

Wait List

The applications of all students who receive a recommendation to admit (either with or without reservation) and who cannot be offered an enrollment contract due to lack of space, are placed on a waiting list until an opening occurs. The school then evaluates each qualified candidate and offers an enrollment contract to whichever candidate is the most appropriate, all factors considered.

Timeline

The school uses a rolling admission process. Students may be admitted to the school during the school year when there are openings.

The school will try to respond to all fully completed applications within two weeks.

Generally, final admission decisions are not made until February with formal notice given in early March
