St. Monica Academy Students – National Merit Scholarship Program

Six St. Monica Academy Students, Out of a Class of 29, Attain Both Commended and Semi-Finalist Status in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.

This is history making news for St. Monica Academy. This is the first time we’ve had this many students achieve both Commended and Semi-Finalist status from one class, reported Mrs. Gutierrez, quite a record by any standard.

Even though freshmen, sophomore and juniors take the annual PSAT, only the junior year PSAT scores are considered for advancement to National Merit Scholar status.

The top 34,000 juniors out of the 1.5 million taking the PSAT are recognized as Commended Students. These represent the top 2%of those taking this exam. We would like to announce that St. Monica Academy has 4 students who have achieved Commended status.

They are: Paul, Joe, Marie and Jack.

The top 16,000 students out of the 1.5 million taking the PSAT in their junior year achieve the Semi-Finalist status in the National Merit Scholarship program. Semi-Finalists account for the top 1% of the 1.5 million students taking the PSAT. We are very excited to announce that this year, St. Monica Academy has two students who have been named Semi-Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

They are:  Rebecca and Sarah.

From here, both Rebecca and Sarah will have the opportunity to be named National Merit Scholars. They will now submit a detailed scholarship application including their transcripts proving their outstanding academic record along with their SAT and ACT scores confirming their superior ranking.

Sarah holds a near perfect SAT score and Rebecca achieved a perfect ACT score and a near perfect SAT score as well. Extremely impressive results!

Both Rebecca and Sarah have been students at St. Monica Academy since elementary school. We are extremely proud of all they have accomplished and achieved for themselves and for St. Monica Academy.  They both stand to receive several scholarship offers and selective college admissions.

Congratulations to Sarah, Paul, Rebecca, Joe, Marie and Jack!

Congratulations to St. Monica Academy!
