A New Home for St. Monica!

holy3holy4holy1To the St. Monica Academy Community,

I am grateful to announce that St. Monica Academy (SMA) has reached a 10 year agreement in principle with the Los Angeles Archdiocese and the Holy Redeemer Parish (HR) to move SMA to the HR school campus in Montrose, CA for the 2015/16 school year and beyond.

Yesterday, our Site Committee, in consultation with our President, unanimously approved this move. This was followed by unanimous approval by the SMA Board of Directors, which includes our Headmaster, Mrs. Grimm.

Under the terms of the lease, SMA has the right to occupy the HR school premises for 6 years, with the possibility of an additional 4 years, if mutually agreed upon by all parties.  St. Monica Academy will remain a completely independent academic institution.

Father Ed Dover, the Pastor of Holy Redeemer and St. James the Less, will announce to his parishioners this weekend that they will be consolidating all their current students to their St. James the Less campus. He will also announce that they will be leasing the HR school facility to SMA.  This financial arrangement will help support both parishes and St. James the Less School.

Father Ed plans to host a “welcome” Mass for us in the next 7-10 days to allow our community to see the campus and meet parishioners.  It is very important that our entire SMA Community understand and respect the current school operation.  Holy Redeemer Middle School is in operation at this campus until their school year ends in mid-June.

Their uninterrupted and undisturbed operation until they have completed their school year and their move this summer is vital.

Please show the utmost respect for the children, faculty, staff, families and parishioners of HR School and resist driving up and “checking out” our new campus. We have waited patiently for years to find a new home, and I am certain we can wait a few more days to see the campus in person at the Welcoming Mass.

PLEASE see below for a message from Martin Boles, the President of our Board of Directors.

Sincerely,
Len Golbranson
Site Committee Chair

A Message from our President

Dear St. Monica Academy,

I am delighted to report that our Board of Directors has unanimously approved this new site.  The Holy Redeemer Campus is an attractive vintage-architecture school building.  It is less than 10 minutes from our present site.  It has a large auditorium, grass playing field, outdoor basketball courts and plenty of parking.  The nearby town of Montrose shopping district is quaint and safe.  The lease terms will not be disadvantageous to our budget or our operational and fiscal model.

holy4We are most pleased to become acquainted with Holy Redeemer’s Pastor, Father Ed Dover, a prayerful priest who has welcomed us enthusiastically, and without whom this move would not been possible.

I would particularly like to thank the Site Committee, led by Len Golbranson, for their Herculean work over the last six plus years.  They painstakingly investigated approximately 100 site prospects, and never gave up in the face of many obstacles that often appeared insurmountable.  Len, his Site Committee colleagues, Jeff Talbot, Andy Zepeda, Scott Turicchi, and Todd Inman, our Development Director, brought deep expertise as well as uncountable hours of indefatigable determination to this labor of love.

Let us all give thanks to God for His continued blessing of our school. Under the protective mantle of Our Lady and through the intercession of our patroness Saint Monica, may we continue to be worthy of our privileged vocation to build the Kingdom and our Nation through this unique educational enterprise. For the countless prayers leading up to this decision, our community deserves thanks and recognition. We also thank our faculty, staff, and students for their patience and many prayers. As the Saint said, God is most keenly attentive to the prayers of children, and he has heard and answered your countless supplications for a new site.

Onward Crusaders, and God Bless St. Monica Academy,
Martin Boles
President of the Board of Directors
